Banfield is a city in Southern Greater Buenos Aires, Argentina, located fifteen kilometers South of the City of Buenos Aires.
The city of Banfield was named after the former Manager and Technician of the English railway who dies in 1872 who was named Edward Banfield. There is also a train station that carries his name, inaugurated in the year 1873 in his honor.
Banfield is connected with the rest of the districts in Greater Buenos Aires by means of the General Roca Train that goes from the Constitucion train station crossing Avellaneda, Gerli, Lanus, and Remedios de Escalada before it then reaches Banfield. It takes about fifteen minutes to reach the city of Banfield by train.
Banfield was one of the area that started to get populated when the epidemics of Yellow Fever reached the city of Buenos Aires and drove families out of the neighborhoods San Telmo and Barracas into new areas like Banfield in 1871.
The Athletic Club Banfield was founded in 1896 and it currently competes in the First Division A of the Argentinean Football league.
