Llavallol, together with Banfield, Temperley, Turdera, Villa Centenario, and Villa Fiorito, are part of the Lomas de Zamora District.
Llavallol is located in Southern Greater Buenos Aires, 13 km away from the City of Buenos Aires.
Between 1603 and 1605 Francisco Garcia Romero bought lands from Pedro López de Tarifa, and creates the Country House "El Cabezuelo," dedicated to the breeding of cattle and occupying a surface area of 370 km2, and was then the largest establishment of its kind. In later years the terrain was divided and auctioned, and the Captain Gaspar de Avellaneda acquires what today is Llavallol including also what today is Santa Catalina, named by Captain Avellaneda to honor Santa Catalina de Siena.
The rest of the land was bought by Pedro de Espinoza, who, in 1737, transferred them to Juan de Zamora. The area was then no longer known as "El Cabezuelo," changing its name to Lomas de Zamora, as we know it today. That same year the railway of Cañuelas was inaugurated, and its first station was named Santa Catalina, but on August 30th, the station is re-named Felipe Llavallol. The following year the second station is inaugurated and it was given the same name as the first station had originally had; Santa Catalina. In 1890 the current Estación Llavallol (Llavallol Station) is inaugurated. In 1902 the city of Llavallol is declared an industrial district.
Curiosity: In 1925 Albert Einstein spent his vacations in Llavallol in the house belong to the Wassermann family. He made the trip to the residence in Lavallol in order to get away from the crowdedness of the city of Buenos Aires, and there he found "beautiful weather, marvelous quietness."
In 1962 Santa Catalina is declared a Historical Place and National Monument by the national Executive Power of the Republic of Argentina, for its merits for an exceptional history, nature and other particular characteristics. On October 17th, 1974, Llavallol was declared a city.
