Guernica together with Villa Numancia belong to the Presidente Peron District.
Guernica is located in Southern Greater Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The terrain that make Guernica have a historical connection with the church because it was a jurisdiction that a priest was in charge of.
On November 29th, 1627, the governor Francisco de Cespedes, granted a field in front of the Riachuelo river to Don Francisco Garcia Romero. The field stretched all the way to the south until the terrain that now are occupied by San Vicente.
On May 18th, 1934, Doña Mathilde Diaz Velez, made a request to the Ministry of Public Works of the Province of Buenos Aires saying that she wanted to found a new town with the name of Guernica, on terrain belonging to her. These plots of land were located in San Vicente KM 32 of the main line of the Southern railway. On August 16th, 1935, the Provincial Executive Power, dictates the resolution that approves the project requested by Doña Mathilde Diaz Velez, and the town of Guernica was founded.
In the year 1940, a train station was added to the newly built town named Lopez Camelo. Mrs. Diaz Velez didnt find this name as fitting since it had no relation with the town's name. A line of paper work was initiated in order to re-name the train station so that it would have the same name as the town; Guernica. On March 20th, 1948, the Direction of Public Transport emitted the resolution that made official the change of name of the train station to Estacion Guernica (Guernica Station).
Currently the city of Guernica is the head of the district called Presidente Peron and together with Villa Numancia they are the two localities in the area.
