Ensenada is a located in Southern Greater Buenos Aires, 27 km away from the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

La Ensenada de Barragán is an area where many important historical events related to the institutional, social, and cultural life, both national and international took place in Argentina. Among them are the English Invasions and the Battle of Monte Santiago during the war with Brasil.

In 1580, when Juan de Garay distributed the plots of land of the city of Buenos Aires, Ensenada received a wide coastal border. From the beginnings of 1732 the town is known as Ensenada de Barragán for the installation made by Don Antonio Gutiérrez de Barragán in 1629.

On February 17th 1856 the Government of the Province of Buenos Aires declares Ensenada as the head town of for the district, shortly after which the municipality installed in the town headed by Notary Venancio Luján,who was in charge of the distribution of lands.

On September 3rd, 1883, terrain with the total area of 12.916,69 square feet were used to construct the "Puerto de la Ensenada" (Harbor of the Ensenada). The port of the city of Buenos Aires had not yet been inaugurated, and the one in La Plata enjoyed a short success, because Puerto Madero was finished shortly after its inauguration, becoming much more popular, pushing the National Government to acquire Puerto Madero.
