Sarandi, together with Wilde, Avellaneda, Crucecita, Dock Sud, Gerli, Piñeiro, and Villa Domínico, belong to the Avellaneda District.
Sarandi is located in Southern Greater Buenos Aires, 5 km away from the City of Buenos Aires.
By the year 1920, Sarandi was already being recognized as a locality of the most developed area in all Greater Buenos Aires. Sarandi had excellent industrial, demographic and commercial growth.
Sarandi, part of the Avellaneda District, houses the following neighborhoods, Villa Belgrano, Villa Bernasconi, Villa Independencia, Villa Mitiguiaga, Villa Mitre, and Villa Sarandi, among others. These neighborhoods grew and slowly but steadily got lightening systems for the streets, paved roads, and sewage systems.
The train stopped for the first time near Sarandi in April, 1872, even though the inaugurations of the Ensenada station didn't take place until December of the same year.
The then president of Argentina, Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, assisted the inauguration, along with ministers and the governor of the province of Buenos Aires. The president arrived to the station in a special passenger car.
The station was first named "Presidente General Mitre" and was made available for use in 1874, but the people always called it the Sarandi station.
As in many other towns of Greater Buenos Aires, the railway was of great importance, bringing with it population and the development of the area, including the construction of different industries and houses.
